Conan Gray Says He's Never Dated Anyone, Despite Writing Tons Of Sad Love Songs

Conan Gray's two albums have led to him to broaden a reputation. That recognition can be writing quite a lot of unhappy songs, mostly about heartbreak and unrequited love.

While some would suppose Gray is writing about a breakup or his personal studies in relationships, the 24-year-old recently told GQ that he hasn't dated anyone.

"You will probably be surprised to learn that I’ve never actually dated anyone," Gray said. "It’s embarrassing! Dating makes me nervous. All my best friends are dating people, though, so I live vicariously through them."

Despite this admission, Gray said that he has indisputably skilled heartbreak.

"I’ve been heartbroken, obviously. I’ve been in love with people, but they haven’t loved me back. In high school I was in love with someone who ended up destroying me. I wrote basically my whole first album about them, and the song 'Heather.' I still write songs about them."

"They actually came to one of my shows without telling me two and a half years ago!" Gray stated. "I was singing 'Lookalike' and saw them standing in the crowd. They don’t think about me at all. I’ve always been like that though! I have small interactions, and I’m still thinking about it months and months later."

When asked if he's in a position to start dating, he printed he's now not rather in a position simply yet.

"I feel almost ready to be in a real relationship. I think a lot of my anxiety around dating has come from my fear of being heartbroken again because I was so sad for so many years about the first one."

Conan Gray Has Spoken About How Much Taylor Swift Has Influenced His Songwriting

Gray has long been a fan of Taylor Swift. He has often spoken about her affect on him and his admiration for her song. When talking to GQ in 2022, Gray gushed about Swift's influence on him as a songwriter.

"Taylor Swift is just such an interesting figure," he mentioned. "I’ve never met her, but she’s been kind to me. Taylor raised an entire generation of songwriters. She taught a lot of people how to write pop songs."

When asked concerning the first Swift song he listened to which modified him as a songwriter, Gray mentioned it was once "Teardrops on my Guitar."

"It was one of the first YouTube videos I ever watched too," Gray stated. "I remember that day so vividly. My family had one computer that we all would use and I remember we all huddled around it and watched together. I remember thinking, Wow, Taylor Swift is the coolest person on the earth."

Swift has openly supported artists like Gray and Olivia Rodrigo. Gray also said that his early life self would be at liberty in regards to the beef up of any individual like Swift.

"Childhood Conan would feel relieved overall about all of this," he mentioned. "I was so stressed as a kid to make it out of my living situation or to be strong enough to go to college. That’s why I worked so hard in high school, because I just needed to escape. I just wanted to be okay."

Conan Said He Hasn't Listened To 'Midnights' In Full Because He's Been Busy On Tour

When promoting his new album "Superache" on The Zach Sang Show, Gray was asked about his favourite tune on Swift's new album "Midnights." Given his status as a Swiftie, fans had been keen to hear his answer.

"People are gonna really hate me for saying this. I actually haven't listened to all the way through yet. I just can't lie about it," he said.

Due to Gray's packed touring time table, which has seen him exploring the globe, he said that he hasn't had the time to take the album in the best way he want to.

"I've been on tour all year and especially with new albums, the type of album that you wanna listen to all the way though, you have to really sit down and do it diligently and give it justice. I just feel like I haven't had the time yet," he explained. "Thank you for accepting me, but I don't think the viewers are gonna accept me for that answer."

It seems like most people do settle for his answer. When you're a emerging famous person like Gray, life at the street can also be so irritating that sitting down and listening to a whole album is not always a chance.
