If you are anxious about having a 'Blue Christmas' away from circle of relatives this 12 months, fret no longer, because whilst you may be away from them physically, you are never by myself.
That's Clara Dao's message to lovers who might in finding themselves in the same boat as her over the 2021 Holiday season - and, having moved to the different aspect of the global on her personal in her teenagers, she is aware of a factor or two about experiencing momentous events without loved ones within reach.
TheThings caught up with Clara to listen to her tips about dealing with the Holidays away from home, and spoiler alert: it's completely doable!
Clara Shares How She'd Like To Spend The Holidays This Year
Asked if she has any plans for the 2021 festive season, Clara explains, "I would hope to be able to go back home to Vietnam."
However, she continues, "I haven't got my Permanent Residence card from Canada yet."
"Once I have that, I can travel, so I hope to get that in time!"
That said, she shrugs, "if not, I'll spend a Happy Holiday by myself," chuckling, "it's not the first time that I've done it - I haven't been to Vietnam in 3 years!"
Clara Explains Why Being Away For The Holidays Doesn't Need To Be A Bad Thing
While Clara admits that she's had many tearful birthdays and Holidays since transferring away from her circle of relatives 6 years in the past, she's adamant that spending Christmas on my own doesn't wish to really feel like the worst thing in the global.
In fact, she smiles reassuringly, "I did it last year and it was great!"
However, she additionally acknowledges that there can be some difficult moments - particularly for those spending their first vacation away from house.
Clara's Tips For A Solo Christmas
So, what occurs when those difficult moments do hit?
"Feeling lonely is absolutely normal, especially over the Holidays," Clara nods, adding that even as a strong advocate for singles positivity and time spent alone, "I still feel lonely sometimes!"
"Just feel the emotions," she urges. "Give yourself permission to just feel everything."
As a bonus, she goes on, "once you do start sitting with it, you'll be surprised that the sadness kind of goes away!"
How To Stay Busy If You're Solo This Holiday Season
Another tip Clara offers is to stick busy.
"Experiment!" she beams. "Go out by yourself and be open to the idea of trying something new."
And if being out and about on your own isn't for you simply but, she continues, "read a book, watch movies, finish all the seasons of your favorite shows...there's a lot of things you can do to fill your time."
The Bottom Line: You're NOT Alone
However you decide to spend your solo Christmas, Clara needs everybody to understand one hugely essential detail: you're now not on my own.
On top of the masses of different individuals who would possibly not make it home for the Holidays, she explains, "there are always people who care about you, no matter what."
"Physically, you may be 'alone', but they're thinking about you and they love you!"
"So, cry if you want to, and whenever your feelings come up, let them, and know they're valid. But," she concludes, "you're never truly alone over the Holidays." No subject how you'll be able to be spending the Holidays this year, that's a message that may contact us all!
