George Clooney Found Out About Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie's Divorce At A UN General Assembly

George learned about Brangelina's divorce from a reporter during a United Nations General Assembly in September 2016. The actor and his wife were there for a UN roundtable on the Syrian refugee crisis organized by President Barack Obama. So it was odd when CNN senior UN reporter, Richard Roth asked George about Angelina and Brad's divorce during the event.

"Don't shoot me on this last question. It's a big story. You're friends with both of them," he told the Out of Sight star who was surprised by the news. "I didn't know that - wow," George responded. "I feel very sorry for them." But instead of being annoyed by the gossipy question, the Batman & Robin alum expressed his sympathies for the former couple:

Angelina and Brad notably missed the Clooneys' wedding in Italy in 2014. A source later told E!: "Brad and Angie are so excited for George and Amal. They are getting a staffer to send [them] a case of their own Château Miraval wine so they can toast the wedding once they get home."

"Brad knows that George and Amal will be talking about the wedding and remembering it all excitedly non-stop for weeks and weeks—just like they have been doing as well," they added. Brad later revealed that he and Angelina were filming By the Sea in Malta at that time. They'd also just tied the knot a month before the Clooneys' nuptials.
