While the I Know What You Did Last Summer series was canceled after just one season, there is no doubting the success of the original movie. The not up to lackluster results of the sequence could have been foretold by the early reactions from fans. Nevertheless, their love for the original film prevails.
On top of being a good fortune in the horror/slasher style, the 1997 movie introduced the careers of several of the movie's stars. Even although Jennifer Love Hewitt wasn't happy with the success the film brought her, there is not any denying that she owes much of her profession to the movie. The same can be stated for Muse Watson, who played the film's giant bad, Benjamin Willis... AKA the killer.
While Muse didn't turn out to be a large celebrity after I Know What You Did Last Summer got here out, he labored constantly until 2014 when he refocused his existence around his autistic daughter and working with Autism charities.
Given the beneficiant nature of the man, it's lovely unexpected that he may just play any such terrifying assassin. In an interview with Vulture, Muse defined that he in fact went moderately approach so as to bring the character to lifestyles...
How Muse Watson Was Cast In I Know What You Did Last Summer
"It all happened really quickly," Muse stated to Vulture of being cast in I Know What You Did Last Summer.
"They had already set up in Wilmington, North Carolina, to film. And they had everybody cast but the killer."
According to Muse, the filmmakers, together with director Jim Gillespie, wanted to rent an actor who was once terrifying but in addition nice to the young stars of the movie.
"Most of the k*llers you hire will get in character and stay there. So they were a little bit worried about [Jennifer] Love Hewitt and [Sarah] Michelle [Gellar], and they wanted somebody nice," Muse stated.
"This guy who was a producer on a horse-jumping movie I did with Julia Roberts and Bobby Duvall called Something to Talk About, he was also a producer on this. And he told them, 'I know a guy that could k*ll you in a minute but he’s the nicest guy there was on set.'"
Is The Villian In I Know What You Did Last Summer A Method Actor?
While Muse didn't somewhat describe himself as a method actor, there's no doubt that his way to the character used to be an identical to what a technique actor would do.
"I offer to loan my body to the character. So it’s pretty intense," Muse admitted.
But Muse used to be scared that if he "loaned" his frame to such a darkish and incessant character that he "wouldn't get it back."
"It was really scary and I needed the credit, I needed the money. It was a career move. And as an actor, I knew playing a horror actor could put you down in other areas of Hollywood, which I wanted."
"When you see that fast walk [in IKWYDLS], I practiced that. I practiced the hook. I worked my tail off on this character. Being scared that I wouldn’t get my body back, one night I was conjuring the character and I got the idea that he was laughing at me."
Muse claimed that he had an interaction with the murderous character.
"He said, 'You’re trying to work yourself up to the point where you can k*ll somebody. I’m a psychotic. It’s like drinking a cup of coffee to me. It ain’t nothing.' And I made one of the best acting decisions I’ve ever made in my life then. Instead of me becoming a psycho, why didn’t I just walk out there and do nothing? Because I’d be reflecting this guy’s feelings, that killing somebody didn’t mean nothing. So I’d walk on the set, I’d perform this guy, and the look on my face was like having a cup of coffee."
Even Muse's wife spotted how the character took over his body. She even refused to let him carry the villain into the house.
While Muse took the job for money he ended up being extremely proud of his efficiency.
"From an acting standpoint, a psychopath is about as far as you can go. I took it on as something I wanted to master. And I think I did."
Muse claimed that not all of his performances have been constant, however that wasn't the case with Benjamin Willis.
"Honestly, I wish they had edited it a little differently to show the depth of character a little more. I understand it being a horror movie, they just wanted me to be a bad guy. But I was trying to put some depth and reality into this guy," Muse said prior to including, "I thought it was a really good film, though."
