Jennifer Lopez & Other Celebs Who Were Sued By Their Employees

It's no secret that celebrities have an army of employees working for them — assistants, chefs, maids, nannies, you name it. And most of the time, those employees are expected not only to work extra long hours but also to do stuff that is not in their scope of work, without getting paid for that additional work.

But from time to time, some of those employees decide that enough is enough, so they end up suing their famous bosses. From Gerard Butler to Jennifer Lopez — keep on scrolling to find out which celebs ended up in a legal battle with their workers!

10 Gerard Butler

Kicking the list off is Scottish actor Gerard Butler, who is mostly known for his roles in movies like 300, The Ugly Truth, and Olympus Has Fallen. Butler was a co-owner of a Korean restaurant Shin BBQ in Hollywood, alongside other celebs like Danny and Chris Masterson. in 2011 two former employees of the restaurant sued the owners, including Butler, for failing to pay overtime, rest periods, meals, as well as violating labor laws.

9 Kim Kardashian

Next on our list is none other than Kim Kardashian, who was sued by staff in May this year. According to the legal documents, Kardashian didn't pay the staff enough nor did she give them breaks during their employment. However, she claimed that's not quite true. "These workers were hired and paid through a third-party vendor," Kim Kardashian's spokesperson said. "Kim is not party to the agreement made between the vendor and their workers, therefore she is not responsible for how the vendor manages their business."

8 Naomi Campbell

Apart from being known as one of the most popular supermodels in the world, Naomi Campbell is also known for her numerous legal issues, mostly with her staff. The former Victoria's Secret model has been accused of violent behavior against her employees eleven times. The model pleaded guilty in two lawsuits and was ordered to attend an anger management program. If that's not enough, Campbell also assaulted two policemen at London Heathrow Airport — she hit and spat at them all because her luggage got lost.

7 Charlie Sheen

Back in 2015, actor Charlie Sheen has been sued for over $1 million by a former staff member Keith Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald's employment was supposed to last for three years, but he was fired after only five months.

"The agreement between Fitzgerald, on one hand, and Sheen and 9th Step, on the other hand, is evidenced by various emails and documents and was also entered into verbally generally," state the court documents. "[But] Fitzgerald's employment relationship was prematurely terminated after approximately five months without any explanation. Fitzgerald received no compensation whatsoever for any of the services he performed for Charlie Sheen at any time whatsoever."

6 Jennifer Lopez

Next on our list is Jennifer Lopez, who was in a legal fight with her former driver Hakob Manoukian. In 2012, Manoukian sued the singer and her manager for breach of contract. Lopez sued back, claiming that Manoukian was blackmailing her. They eventually settled the lawsuit.

5 Marilyn Manson

Let's move on to Marilyn Manson, who was sued by his former assistant Ashley Walters for sexual assault, battery, and harassment earlier this year. Court documents state that the controversial singer was was "looking to create an environment where Plaintiff was subjected to personal and professional sexual exploitation, manipulation and psychological abuse." Manson has denied any accusation brought against him.

4 Sharon Stone

Another celebrity who was sued by their employee is actress Sharon Stone. The Basic Instincts actress was sued by her former nanny Erlinda Elemen, who claimed Stone violated labor laws and made racist remarks about the nanny's Philipino heritage. Only one year after this lawsuit, Stone was sued by another employee – her then-maid Angelica Castillo — for wrongful termination.

3 Chris Brown

Let's move on to Chris Brown, whose former housekeeper sued him over a dog attack that happened in December 2020 on Brown's premises. "The dog begins savagely biting her face, her arms, and other parts of her person and body, literally tearing out and ripping off large chunks of her skin from her face and her arms," state the court documents. According to Fox News, the rapper ordered his security team to get rid of the dog, which they successfully did — the dog was euthanized.

2 Mariah Carey

Next on the list is Mariah Carey, sued by former nanny Maria Burgues for emotional distress in 2019. Burgues claims that she was not paid for the extra hours she had to do as well as that Carey's bodyguard would intimidate and threaten her. The singer refused to settle the lawsuit, so it is yet to be who will win in this legal battle.

1 Lisa Vanderpump

Wrapping up our list is Lisa Vanderpump, who's had some legal issues with her employees at the PUMP restaurant. According to the documents, the staff was unfairly compensated during their employment.

"For at least four years prior to the filing of this action and continuing to present, defendants have had a policy or practice of failing to pay overtime wags to Plaintiff and other non-exempt employees," states the lawsuit. The documents also allege that employees "routinely [worked] over eight hours per day, 40 hours per week and seven consecutive work days in a work week without being properly compensated for hours worked in excess."
