Emily Deschanel Was Brought In To Read After David Boreanaz Was Already Cast

Having proven his appearing chops on Buffy and Angel, Boreanaz didn’t even have to audition for his function on Bones. In fact, Fox Television’s then-boss, Dana Walden, even in my opinion suggested that the actor play cocky FBI agent Seeley Booth.

After years of taking part in a vampire (which he enjoyed completely), Boreanaz felt that Bones gave him the chance to take a look at one thing different. And once he signed on, it used to be then up to writer Hart Hanson to search out any person that will equally match Boreanaz’s presence onscreen. In the end, Hanson shortlisted two actresses, one of which was once Deschanel.

At that point, on the other hand, few knew of the actress and Hanson wondered if she may move “toe-to-toe” with Boreanaz because the position required. After one chemistry read, it became clear that Deschanel could. “Emily pulled into the entrance position for me…,” Hanson recalled.

But then, Deschanel additionally had to end up that she could fit Boreanaz’s onscreen presence to the community. And when she read with the actor all over again, Deschanel made it clear she could grasp her personal.

“There was once this second with David and Emily where he stepped toward her. He just steps toward Emily, and Booth was seeking to determine himself because the alpha with Brennan, and she just steps towards him,” Hanson explained. “It appears like a easy thing, but it surely was her instinct, and it used to be electrical.”

More importantly, Hanson discovered that the two had incredible chemistry. "Everyone in that room was a pro, and knew chemistry when they saw it—I didn’t have to make any argument at all. It was obvious they had this chemistry,” he remarked. “Chemistry is impossible to find.”

Boreanaz and Deschanel’s chemistry continued to get stronger over the years, which is probably due to the good working relationship they had established behind the scenes. For the two stars, the key was to learn to understand each other better.

“We spent more time with each other than we did with our own spouses — with anybody else, really — and we fully acknowledged that we would drive each other crazy,” Deschanel explained.

“We gave each other permission to walk away at different times, or just say ‘you’re really bothering me right now,’ or ‘you’re annoying me, I have to get away from you.’ And we rarely used that because we gave each other permission, and we talked about it.”

The Co-Stars Once Sued Fox Together

As the show went on, both Boreanaz and Deschanel went on to also serve as producers on the show. And while they may have also received significant raises in the latter seasons (Deschanel, for one, was reportedly paid $250,000 per episode), the two stars still felt like Fox had ultimately short-changed them.

Meanwhile, while it seems that a Bones reboot would never happen, there may just be another way for Boreanaz and Deschanel to reunite onscreen again. In fact, Boreanaz appears to be open to having his former co-star do a guest appearance on his current show, the action-drama SEAL Team.

“I’m sure she would love to…,” Boreanaz answered when asked about Deschanel showing up in the series. SEAL Team is currently filming its sixth season and as fans of the show may know, anything is possible.
